چکیده

Waste anesthetic gas (WAG) is a small amount of inhaled that comes out the patient’s anesthesia breathing circuit into envorinment air while patient under anesthesia. According to American Occupation Safety and HealthAdministration (OSHA) more than 200.000 healthcare workers especially aneaesthesiologist, surgery nurse, obstetrician surgeons are at risk developing work-related disease due chronic exposure WAG. While genotoxicity, mutagenicity, oxidative stress, headache, nephrotoxic, neurotoxic, hepatotoxic, immunosuppressive reproductive toxicological effect. gases known environmental pollutants will be released from OR outside environment then substance reach atmosphere damaging ozone layer. trace perioperative cannot eliminated completely, but it can controlled. Controlling achieve by using scavenging system, proper ventilation, airway management, ideal choice, maintaining machine equipment, hospital regulation routine health status examination.

St1b Waste Anesthetic Gases: the Invisible Threat

Waste anesthetic gases (WAGs) can be defined as all halogenated organic compounds (including methoxyflurane, halothane, isoflurane, sevoflurane, desflurane, and enflurane) and nitrous oxide that escape from the anesthetic circuit, or are exhaled by the patient. Management of WAGs intuitively seems prudent, but because excessive exposure is often difficult to detect without special monitoring de...

Some studies indicate that difficulties with breastfeeding may be related to the amount of the anesthetic or analgesic that is administered to the mother. Thus, it seems wise to administer the lowest p...

Occupational exposure to trace concentrations of waste anesthetic gases.

The relationship between exposure to trace concentrations of waste anesthetic gases in the operating room and the possible development of adverse health effects has concerned health care professionals for numerous years. Results of studies have been conflicting. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, some US and European epidemiological studies of operating room personnel showed an increase in the ...
